Ernest Bussell (1878-1967) ran a successful ironmongery business in St Mary Street and during his later life became a collector of art and antiques. After his death in 1967 his wife Constance donated his collection of over 240 pictures to the town and they are now a part of the Museum’s collection.
A selection of over 40 of these pictures, relating to the Georgian era, will be on display at the Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum in Dorchester. This special exhibition will only run from 10 July until 4 September and so do take this opportunity to visit.
